Frequently Asked Questions

What are the exact JEE Main photo requirements?
The JEE Main portal requires a photo that is exactly 200×230 px, between 10 KB and 200 KB, in JPEG format with a white background. Use a recent colour photograph. Your name and the date the photo was taken should appear below the photo. Plain white background required. Avoid wearing a cap or tinted glasses. Check the latest JEE Main notification at jeemain.nta.nic.in to confirm the latest specs before you submit.
Why is the JEE Main portal rejecting my photo?
The most common reasons are: wrong dimensions (the portal checks pixel size exactly), file too large or too small, wrong format (e.g. PNG when JPEG is required), or a transparent background where a white one is needed. ExamFile fixes all of these automatically — it resizes, compresses, converts to JPEG, and fills any transparent areas with white.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No — and this is the whole point. Everything runs locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your file never leaves your device. We have no server that receives your photo or signature, so there is nothing for us to store, share, or lose.
Does this work on mobile?
Yes. ExamFile is designed mobile-first. It works on any modern smartphone browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox. You can upload straight from your camera roll or take a fresh photo. No app to install.
What if my photo is too small or has the wrong aspect ratio?
If your photo is smaller than 200×230 px, ExamFile will tell you clearly so you can use a larger original. If the aspect ratio doesn't match, we automatically center-crop to fill the target dimensions — so the face stays centred and nothing gets stretched. For best results always use the original camera file, not a screenshot.
